ABOUT The Accelerator
The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator brings together an unprecedented group of leaders to implement transformative climate action. First announced as the first high-level commitment coming out of President Macron’s One Planet Summit in Paris in 2017. Prime Ministers Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica, Keith Mitchell of Grenada, Allen Chastanet of Saint Lucia and Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson articulated a far-reaching vision for the world’s first climate-smart zone.
27 Caribbean government heads and some of the largest global companies, financial institutions, and foundations have joined the Accelerator to help the Caribbean become a beacon of climate-smart development through pioneering resilience and growth initiatives.
The Accelerator is an entrepreneurial engine that catalyses and accelerates priority initiatives towards a “climate-smart” zone, delivering resilience, social development and broad-based economic growth for the Caribbean. It will do so by identifying and uniting commitments to building a more sustainable and resilient future for island nations through collaboration between national governments, regional and international institutions as well as public and private sector organisations.
The Accelerator will harness the national and regional capacity and development experience of Caribbean countries and join it with world-class innovation and delivery capabilities. It will not duplicate existing efforts; it will serve Caribbean countries and regional entities, multi-lateral institutions, the private sector, and other partners to fast-track commercial and philanthropic resilience-building investments and catalyse innovative partnerships between them.
