SUMMARY:Outreach & Diversity in the Environmental and Cultural Sectors
DESCRIPTION:Environmental conditions such as flooding or hurricanes can result in temporary or permanent migration or displacement. Such events and movement patterns are anticipated to increase under a changing climate. This can result in economic\, societal\, and cultural losses\, as well as detriments to health. Some people are more likely to suffer than others. What steps might be taken to help make communities more resilient and in ways that would enable them to participate in a Just Transition and reconstruction more fully? To address the dynamic and development of change in complex socio-ecological systems\, panelists consider issues of resilience\, adaptability and transformability across multiple scales. There is an overarching concern in addressing risk\, disaster\, humanitarian aid\, and rebuilding post-disaster and whether it is possible to foster resilience at small\, manageable scales when confronted with larger governance structures and entrenched patterns of resource accumulation that are less resilient.

SUMMARY:Race to Resilience Sessions
DESCRIPTION:An inclusive virtual and physical space to mobilise action on resilience at COP27 and beyond\nJoin us at Regional Resilience Hubs in the lead up to the 2022 UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) and take part virtually and in person in Sharm el-Sheikh\, Egypt. \n\n\nThe Resilience Hub is designed to connect and inspire people across business\, civil society\, academia and government to collaborate and scale up action that builds resilience to the impact of climate change and makes communities around the world safer\, healthier and more just. \nWe are motivated by the urgent need to increase the level of ambition and finance given to building resilience\, particularly for the world’s most vulnerable populations\, and placing locally informed\, equitable solutions centre stage in the run up to and during COP. \nFollowing a successful inaugural Hub at COP26 in Glasgow\, the Resilience Hub is returning as a dynamic\, inclusive virtual and physical space at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh in November 2022.

SUMMARY:Small island states\, climate justice and International Law: Raising ambitions for the SDGs and Paris Agreement commitments
DESCRIPTION:International law has been under-utilised as an instrument to hold states responsible for climate-related harm. That is changing. Over the past year\, small island states – already experiencing some of the gravest impacts of climate breakdown – have taken strong steps towards securing climate justice through the use of international law.
