SUMMARY:Devex @ COP 27
DESCRIPTION:On November 10\, Devex will host a series of provocative conversations on global development and climate change on the sidelines of the COP 27 negotiations in person in Sharm El-Sheik. This won’t be your standard COP event. Step outside of the blue zone as we spotlight how low- and middle-income countries are included — or not — in these critical conversations while being the most impacted. We’ll dig into cross-cutting issues such as health\, food systems\, migration\, and finance\, and how climate intersects with every facet of achieving the sustainable development goals.

SUMMARY:Sustainable Innovation Forum at COP27
DESCRIPTION:The Sustainable Innovation Forum  \n\n\n\n\nWith 1.5 degrees in jeopardy\, we need bold collaboration and brave action at COP27. The Sustainable Innovation Forum 2022 (now in its 13th year) will convene over 500 heads of state\, ministers\, CEO’s\, investors\, multilateral dignitaries\, and city leaders in the largest multi stakeholder event at the COP27 negotiations. The Forum aims to enable forge cross-sector partnerships between the non-state actor community\, to shift climate action out of silos and leverage ambitious\, collaborative global efforts to keep warming within 1.5 degrees. \n\n\n\n\n\nDate: Day 2 – November 10 2022\nTime: 14:30 – 15:10 GMT + 2 \nPanel: How can data\, digitisation and automation secure real decarbonisation and climate action in line with <1.5 degrees warming? \nDigitisation and IoT are generating more data than we know how to use. This data enables us to track\, monitor\, measure and optimise\nproduction across our supply chains as well as drive efficiencies and futureproofing across the built environment. But there are trade-offs\nto manage from increasing digitisation including unemployment\, energy use of data centres and security risks.\n• How can we ensure digital solutions deliver our human and planetary needs?\n• How can data driven disruption help us decarbonise energy at the exponential rates we require?\n• How is digitisation set to transform different sectors’ adaptation and mitigation efforts; industry\, buildings\, transport and most\ncrucially energy?\n• How can digitisation drive out inefficiencies in the industrial sectors?

SUMMARY:Outreach & Diversity in the Environmental and Cultural Sectors
DESCRIPTION:Environmental conditions such as flooding or hurricanes can result in temporary or permanent migration or displacement. Such events and movement patterns are anticipated to increase under a changing climate. This can result in economic\, societal\, and cultural losses\, as well as detriments to health. Some people are more likely to suffer than others. What steps might be taken to help make communities more resilient and in ways that would enable them to participate in a Just Transition and reconstruction more fully? To address the dynamic and development of change in complex socio-ecological systems\, panelists consider issues of resilience\, adaptability and transformability across multiple scales. There is an overarching concern in addressing risk\, disaster\, humanitarian aid\, and rebuilding post-disaster and whether it is possible to foster resilience at small\, manageable scales when confronted with larger governance structures and entrenched patterns of resource accumulation that are less resilient.

SUMMARY:Small island states\, climate justice and International Law: Raising ambitions for the SDGs and Paris Agreement commitments
DESCRIPTION:International law has been under-utilised as an instrument to hold states responsible for climate-related harm. That is changing. Over the past year\, small island states – already experiencing some of the gravest impacts of climate breakdown – have taken strong steps towards securing climate justice through the use of international law.

SUMMARY:Ocean Decarbonization in the Caribbean
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Maritimes Energy Association and Net Zero Atlantic for a webinar on ocean decarbonization in the Caribbean.  Hear from keynote speaker\, Racquel Moses\, UNFCCC global ambassador and chief executive officer\, Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator as well as regional stakeholders on the importance of ocean decarbonization. \nThe ocean is central to reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and stabilizing the Earth’s climate. This session aims to put together regional stakeholders and Atlantic Canadian companies involved in the Decarbonization of the Oceans and the Blue Economy to look beyond current solutions and brainstorm about high-impact interventions to decarbonize the Caribbean Ocean ecosystem. Our experts will discuss global trends in the sector\, the pressing needs in the Caribbean decarbonization space\, potential international financial institutions’ support in the space\, examples of work by Ports in the region to green the industry\, and how to enhance public and private collaboration to create meaningful impact. Atlantic Canada is at the forefront of research and development in the decarbonization of the ocean and electrification of the marine industry\, and this webinar should be a way to start linkages between key players in our region and the Caribbean\, allowing for future connections and collaborations in the Blue Economy. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:2nd Caribbean ESG & Climate Financing Summit
DESCRIPTION:The 2nd annual Caribbean ESG & Climate Financing Summit arrives in Trinidad & Tobago\, in-person for the first time\, this November 29-30. \nLaunched in 2021\, the inaugural event gathered 300 corporate\, government and finance leaders\, in what was a clear indication of the significance of ESG and climate finance to the competitiveness of the Caribbean. \nFor Caribbean corporates\, ESG is no longer optional; it’s urgent: access to capital and trading partners will depend upon it. For Caribbean governments facing down extraordinary threats from climate change\, access to climate-linked capital is critical. But in some quarters\, the case still needs to be made. \nThe only forum in the region that gathers corporates\, sovereigns\, lenders and investors\, the 2022 Caribbean ESG & Climate Financing Summit represents an opportunity to make a leap forward and to mainstream a new way of operating\, and a new financing ecosystem\, for the region. \nThe transformation is underway. Now we need to implement and accelerate. Be there for the region’s only ESG and climate financing event\, as we make what happens next.

SUMMARY:UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 15)
DESCRIPTION:Despite on-going efforts\, biodiversity is deteriorating worldwide and this decline is projected to worsen with business-as-usual scenarios. The UN Biodiversity Conference will convene governments from around the world to agree to a new set of goals for nature over the next decade through the Convention on Biological Diversity post-2020 framework process. The framework sets out an ambitious plan to implement broad-based action to bring about a transformation in society’s relationship with biodiversity and to ensure that\, by 2050\, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled. \nThe Conference will also look at the implementation of the protocols of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that deal with the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of nature\, and the safe transport\, handling and labelling of Living Modified Organisms. \nThe first part of COP-15 included the opening of the Meetings and addressed agenda items that were identified as essential for the continuation of the operations of the Convention and the Protocols by the Bureau. This included meetings about administrative matters and technical issues related to CBD programmes. \nThere was also a high-level segment on 12 and 13 October 2021. Participants focused on the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. \nAll sessions at COP-15 will be streamed live at cbd.int/live and the main schedule is also available. \nInformation on Media Accreditation \n \nFollow the latest details about COP-15 using the hashtag #COP15 on social media.

SUMMARY:UN 2023 Water Conference
DESCRIPTION:Water is a fundamental part of all aspects of life. Water is inextricably linked to the three pillars of sustainable development\, and it integrates social\, cultural\, economic and political values. It is crosscutting and supports the achievement of many SDGs through close linkages with climate\, energy\, cities\, the environment\, food security\, poverty\, gender equality and health\, amongst others. With climate change profoundly affecting our economies\, societies and environment\, water is indeed the biggest deal breaker to achieve the internationally agreed water-related goals and targets\, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Read the vision statement of the Water Conference.
