SUMMARY:GCF Private Investment for Climate Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:From investment to impacts \nSeptember 4-5\, 2023\, in Nairobi\, Kenya \nThe sixth annual “GCF Private Investment for Climate Conference (GPIC)” brings together global leaders from the private and governmental sectors in order to accelerate private finance for climate action in developing countries. \nThe climate situation is far too critical to rely just on the resources of government institutions. Combating climate change necessitates creative\, transformative thinking\, as well as public-private collaborations. The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator\, CCSA\, believes that the GCF is critical in shifting and catalyzing private-sector-managed financing flows into low-emission and climate-resilient initiatives in developing nations.

SUMMARY:Africa Climate Week (ACW 2023)
DESCRIPTION:Africa Climate Week (ACW 2023)\, Nairobi\, 4-8 September. Hosted by the government of Kenya\, this event will be organised in parallel with the African Climate Action Summit (4-6 September)\, also hosted by Kenya. \n— \nFour Regional Climate Weeks will be held this year to build momentum ahead of COP28 and the conclusion of the first global stocktake\, designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s key goals. \n“The global stocktake is a critical turning point when it comes to efforts to address climate change – it’s a moment to take a close look at the state of our planet and to chart a better course for the future\,” said the Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change Simon Stiell. “We need regional stakeholders to identify what works for them\, and to present plans and strategies at COP28 in Dubai which are regionally applicable. This will be a key role of the Regional Climate Weeks this year.” \nThe Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator\, CCSA believes that Regional Climate Weeks bring together a diverse range of stakeholders for regional collaboration on climate change. Participants include representatives of governments\, the private sector\, development organizations\, youth groups and civil society opening space.  The events provide numerous opportunities to engage in solution-oriented dialogues\, to build new partnerships and collaborate on climate action projects. \nThis year’s Regional Climate Weeks aim at clustering key events ahead of COP28 which have been mandated by governments but which are not part of the formal negotiating agenda. \nAll the Regional Climate Weeks will be delivered in close cooperation with global partners of UN Climate Change – the UN Development Programme (UNDP)\, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Bank groups – as well as regional partners. \nThe Regional Climate Weeks website.

SUMMARY:Chief Executive Officers and Leadership Conference 2023
DESCRIPTION:This year’s CEOs‘ and Leadership Conference will be held under the theme\, ‘360-degree Leadership: Balancing the Load’. \nCARILEC has chosen this theme\, recognizing that leaders within the energy industry need to adopt this leadership style now\, more than ever. 360-degree leadership is an essential strategy for leaders if they are to successfully navigate the ever-changing and versatile energy sector\, particularly with the shift to sustainable and renewable energy sources. \nThe theme refers to the need for inclusive leadership\, creating a holistic vision and shared responsibility for power sector modernization and energy transitioning. It does not only refer to internal leading (e.g.\, of employees and self)\, but also externally by building ownership of customers/prosumers\, government policy makers\, regulators\, IPPs and other business partners (360). \nLeading a green energy network in the Caribbean requires strategic partnerships. The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator\, CCSA recognizes this and encourages collaboration among countries and organizations to learn from each other’s strengths and progress\, forming a strong network along the Caribbean climate-smart zone. SUMMARY:Climate Conference: Aruba
DESCRIPTION:The Netherlands and Aruba are organising a climate conference on Aruba \nSmall islands\, like those in the Caribbean Netherlands\, are particularly vulnerable to climate change and are already experiencing its negative effects. The Netherlands and Aruba want to encourage cooperation on climate action between small islands world-wide. From the 10th to the 12th of May they will be organising the first Caribbean Climate & Energy Conference (CCEC) on Aruba. \nThe Netherlands and Aruba want to make the islands in the Caribbean a model for tackling climate action in small island states. Upon invitation of the Prime Minister of Aruba\, Evelyn Wever-Croes\, and the Minister for Climate and Energy Policy\, Rob Jetten\, representatives from countries and organisations will meet on Aruba. It regards representatives coming from islands in the Caribbean region itself\, but also from relevant parties elsewhere\, such as island states in the Pacific Ocean\, UN organisations\, knowledge and financial institutions. \nThe first day of the conference will be devoted to the climate and energy transition within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Caribbean islands in the Kingdom will discuss what kind of corporation is needed in order to achieve the climate goals laid down in the Paris Agreement. Day two of the conference will have an international focus\, during which a broad panel of countries and organisations will discuss the climate action that is needed for islands worldwide. On the third day the participants will visit energy-related projects on Aruba and they will meet young people to discuss the climate and energy transition on the island. \nDuring the climate summit in Sharm-el-Sheikh (COP27) the Netherlands committed to accelerating the climate and energy transition on small island states like those in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. To this end the Netherlands is participating in initiatives such as the Local2030 Islands Network and the SIDS Lighthouse Initiative. The government wants the Caribbean Climate & Energy Conference on Aruba to be a continuation of this work. \nREAD MORE
