Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference 2022
There is a lot to be learned from Caribbean leadership

Having presented at the T&T Energy Chamber 2022 Caribbean Sustainable Energy Conference the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) is filled with enthusiasm. The conference highlighted a lot of solutions and many plans. The CCSA presented on day one of the conference that there was a lot to be learned from Caribbean leadership.

In that regard Barbados is a global leader in solar water heaters in a way that the rest of the world should examine and follow. The Dutch islands Curacao and Aruba have diversified energy mixes including wind, solar and waste to energy which many other countries are trying to figure out, their energy plans have taken them through a very meticulous process of deciding the best solutions.

The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States including Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica Grenada Montserrat St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia and St Vincent & the Grenadines are pioneers in their geothermal exploration which will open up their opportunities for green hydrogen global exports as well as other opportunities such as providing green data centres for blockchain mining.

Trinidad & Tobago exploring moving from blue hydrogen to green in pursuing carbon neutrality.

Jamaica is a magnificent example of opening up the market to encourage entrepreneurship having set NDCs achieved and increased their commitments systematically.

Costa Rica is one of only seven countries in the world that can operate almost exclusively on renewable energy.

There’s lots that we can learn but even more that we need to learn from each other and collaborate on to share best practice and build the region into the world’s first climate smart zone.
