4th International Conference on SIDS

May 27 - May 30

Opportunity abounds amidst the converging crises facing Small Island Developing States (SIDS)—from the impacts of climate change to the economic fallout of COVID-19 and looming debt challenges. Despite the adversity, these islands are poised at a critical juncture where bold actions can catalyze positive change.

The pandemic’s blow to tourism, a cornerstone of many island economies, has laid bare vulnerabilities, leaving fiscal deficits and stalling progress towards Sustainable Development Goals. Concurrently, the escalating frequency of climate-related catastrophes accentuates the urgent need for action, with SIDS disproportionately bearing the brunt despite their minimal contribution to global emissions.

However, within this crucible of challenges lies the chance for collective action and innovation. In May 2024, Antigua and Barbuda will host a pivotal gathering of the international community. Here, stakeholders will convene to not only assess SIDS’ sustainable development strides but also chart a visionary course for the coming decade. It’s a moment ripe for forging robust partnerships and unveiling solutions to propel these islands toward resilient prosperity.

Amidst this event, the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) will co-host a significant side event. At this gathering, the much-anticipated Climate Smart Map will be launched, symbolizing a crucial step forward in equipping SIDS with innovative tools to navigate the challenges ahead.
