Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator Appoints Two New Board Members

Bridgetown, October 20, 2023 — The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) today announced the appointment of development professionals Una May Gordon and Daniel Best to its Board of Directors. Their combined 65 years of experience and expertise is expected to propel the CCSA’s mission  to advance climate resilience and sustainable development throughout the Caribbean.

Racquel Moses, chief executive officer of the CCSA said, “Our work to close financing gaps to ensure our region will not just adapt to, but  thrive in the face of climate change is urgent. Una May and Daniel are excellent additions to our board as tried, knowledgeable and driven experts who understand the regional and global contexts in which we operate. Their collective effect will propel us to a new age of impact.”

Una May Gordon

With more than 35 years in climate change, environmental management, and agribusiness, Una May Gordon joins the CCSA board as the new co-chair. She has played vital roles in climate policy-making, disaster risk assessment, and inter-sectoral project management at national, regional, and international levels. She’s a champion for regional integration and currently serves on many boards and advisories including serving as the current chair of the Board of Governors of the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC). An advocate for gender equality, she’s also a board member of the Caribbean Institute of Women in Leadership. Her commitment to sustainable development and her extensive track record make her a valuable addition to the CCSA’s board.

Daniel Best 

Daniel Best, Senior Infrastructure and Development Advisor to the Office of the Prime Minister of Barbados seconded from his role as  Director of the Projects  of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), brings almost 30 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Project Management Professional and Development Banker to the Board. His leadership of CDB’s capital and technical assistance interventions has resulted in a steady expansion of the Bank’s lending and grant portfolios while also consistently exceeding approval and disbursement targets. Mr. Best holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Durham and is recognized as a regional leader in the development and delivery of resilient infrastructure solutions that respond to the transformational needs of the Caribbean. Beyond his career, he has a passion for the Creative Industries borne out by him being both a guitarist and an award winning actor. Gordon and Best join esteemed board members: Dr. Joy St. John, Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency; His Excellency Dr Didacus Jules, Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States; Jean Oelwang, President and Trustee of Virgin Unite and co-founder of Plus Wonder;  Racquel Moses, CEO of CCSA and; advisors Lilia Burunciuc, Country Director for the Caribbean at the World Bank and; Musheer Kamau, Regional Operations Advisor and Strategy Leader at the Inter-American Development Bank.
